Because Life is Funny like That.

Fall is coming :) we wore sweaters to the park this morning!!
At the beginning of the week I had no idea that by Thursday I would have another little one in my life for the upcoming fall. But actually I love that life is unpredictable :) starting Tuesday we are having a bright, brilliant and oh so adorable little lady join our daily routine. It was just the perfect situation for both families and now our little ones will get to spend their days playing together. Love it.

Meet Ciel - sweetest little girl ever :)!
Today Ciel came for a practice run and stayed all morning :). We had a lot of fun pulling out pretty much every toy and playing. Jack is totally smitten with her and while they had their moments of toy struggles, they got along remarkably! Both of them have very similar temperaments, activity levels and sleep schedules.
Playing so hard, they took a water break together which was just too cute.
Jack did very well sharing his Momma and toys all morning with Ciel. We are both so very excited for next week. To help Ciel fit into our daily routine perfectly we decided to make a little investment and get a double jogging stroller. Yes, oh yes, my heart is singing because on Saturday we are picking up a double BOB stroller. This will be perfect for Jack and Ciel to ride in while we all take in some fresh air and end up at the park for play!

Jack was a perfect little gentleman and friend making sure that when we went upstairs for lunch Ciel had her blanket and kitty with her so I had to snap this darling pic of her on the stairs. I am in love with the curls!

A Few Words Wednesday: Fun Day at Hennigars!

Meeting up with some little friends at Hennigars was a fabulous morning out with both of us. There were wonderful little bunnies and goats and lots of fun play things too!

It is such a beautiful little spot and we will certainly be back soon! Jack especially loved the fish in the pond!

Toddler Tuesday: Cheese Pizza with Sneaky Sauce

I am not the first nor the last parent to gloss over the truth for all the right reasons. In a perfect world Jack would eat vegetables and meat by the handful without kicking up a fuss. Seriously though, I can only ask for so much and then I'm pushing it. Jack loves to eat and so I will take that and run with it. I decided to try blending some tofu and spinach into pizza sauce for his little pizzas I make ahead and freeze for dinners and lunches. (When I say pizza I really mean sliced bread slathered with pizza sauce and some kind of grated cheese.)

You may think that this was overkill. I made seven little pizzas for our freezer, but Jack ate three for lunch that day and Lucy stole one when I wasn't looking. So much for my big plan to have the freezer stocked.
If you have trouble getting your little one to eat enough protein or vegetables in a days worth of meals then I suggest this route in addition to repeatedly offering new foods. Jack is really warming to chicken and peas so there may still be hope he won't turn into bowl of Mac N cheese one of these days.  He even ate handfuls of roasted edamame and two whole homemade chicken fingers which sorta just came out of the blue and pleasantly surprised us. I'm feeling a sense of relief, but I will certainly keep up this sauce trick for added greatness to one of his favourite foods - Pizza!

A visit from Uncle Pat!

Jack absolutely adores his Uncle Pat - and we were so lucky to have him come visit us on the weekend while he's back in Nova Scotia.

And if Jack didn't already love Pat before - he totally would now. Pat brought with him a super awesome gift for Jack. A workbench with tools :)!

All three men put the bench together which was surprisingly more than "some assembly required". Jack had a blast playing with the hammers, screw driver and cutting a wooden board with his new saw.

Since Jack absolutely loves Bob the Builder and Handy Manny he is living the dream by working at his own little tool bench :)

Thanks so much Pat - you were all Jack could talk about for hours after you left!

Thanks for stopping by and enjoying another post about our little-mister-fix-it Happily Hectic Household!

Fab Foodie Friday: Homemade Pizza Pockets

I have looked at this recipe for weeks now promising myself that during some evening or nap time I need to make them. Well, many naps and evenings have all come and gone so I figured I would take advantage of the cool weather today and get cracking. I love the idea of pre-making meals and having them in the freezer for moments when I don't want to or don't have the time to cook a meal. Saves us from hitting up fast food place and spending needless amounts of $$.

I must say that I was super intrigued by the idea of homemade pizza pockets. Choose your own fillings, save a couple bucks and avoid a mess of preservatives in the meals we eat. Not that we've bought pizza pockets lately - but both Scott and I do love them. I wanted to have the yumminess without the cost or junk in it. So long as you're willing to put in a bit of time I would say this is a win-win situation!

A Few Words Wednesday: Zoo with Greyson!

Jack was so excited he got to see Sterk with his Momma Trainer...
... which explains his "mind blown" face here!
Jack said "Bebe Pig" a thousand times on the car trip down, SO glad he was able to enjoy some piggy lovin'!

(Also for a point of reference on how fast these two are growing up, here is a shot of them last summer!)

How quickly I forget that Jack has been bald as an egg for the majority of his life! hahaha.

Toddler Tuesday: Costco Date with my wee one!

Scott and I are big Costco fans and we love Costco dates. Going to browse, explore, peruse and then scarf down a delicious meal from their snack counter which is reasonably priced considering one meal is like enough food for 6 people. Since we were up in the city yesterday to bring Nana to the airport it was about time Jack and I had a Costco date now that he's old enough to appreciate all the cool things in the store around him.

Nana knew we were heading to Costco so she gave Jack some spending money :). Jack had no trouble at all picking out a perfect toy for himself.

He actually shrieked "WOW DIGGERS!" from way across the clothing section. I hastily laid down the snowsuit I was sizing up for him (OMG I know it's August - don't think me a diehard winter lover. They just had good selection, which really isn't hard to believe considering everyone was avoiding the table of snow suits like the plague) and we zipped over to the huge wall of construction site diggers.

After he picked out two diggers he loved, his funny money was spent and we headed out to have lunch on their little cafe area. Since there were no seats to be found for little kids I opted for the "Momma lap highchair" and he gobbled up his food while trying to feed me too.

I was stoked to use their huge bathroom to do his diaper change and my pee break before hitting the road back to the valley. Sadly it was not meant to be. We were in the bathroom less than a minute before another person used those great Dyson Air Blade hand dryers. Jack had an absolute terrified melt down and so we ended up doing the diaper change in the car after all.

We had a great date together - giving us lots of time to browse, laugh and take many silly pics together :)!

Trip to the Zoo with Nana!

Nana took some great pictures while she was here. We had lots of beautiful weather and so we headed to the zoo! All the animals were out in the morning sunshine and loving the breeze!

Jack loved having a crowd of people following him around the zoo rather than just Momma!

And thankfully the sweet little baby goats were the welcoming committee at the corn machine. Jack loved his little buddies and shared lots of bites of corn!

We loved having Nana here! She headed to the airport today and she's off to Newfoundland. Jack enjoyed the trip up to the airport to see her off! We popped into Costco for a Momma-Baby shopping and lunch date - more tomorrow!

Visiting with Nana: Joining our routine!

Nana arrived late last night so Jack didn't get to see her until this morning! He was very excited and has loved having her around all day apart of his daily activity.

We enjoyed our big morning walk, reading, eating, toys, games and shopping! Jack loved all the fun things his Nana brought him including some of Daddy's childhood Dino toys, a model airplane and a really fun story friend named Bigsby. He is the most adorable little reading friend because he responds to your voice as you read from one of his books.

Jack was a little nervous of Bigsby maybe just because his curiously cute monster looks. But later in the day he loved to hear Daddy read the story while Bigsby added his cute little comments in a growly little voice.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. We're in store for lots of beautiful weather and Nana loving!

Summer Sickness: The power of Sleep!

Not at all what I thought I would be blogging about today. Our plans today included a road trip to Ashley and Bryons new house and Nana is arriving tonight. But alas change of plans - instead Jack woke up with a fever and upset.

We headed out after a long snuggle session for a walk. He immediately passed out into a deep snooze. Since you always let sick sleeping babies sleep I walked for a whole hour. Then got back to the house and Lucy and I waited outside for another 45 minutes.

He finally awoke, only to be cranky and demand snuggles in his chair. So we went in and he he went back down for slept and slept an additional two hours totalling his nap to over 4 hours. Amazing. This kid hasn't sleep like that during the day since he was a newborn.

Once he was up this kid wanted to run and play, and wear his helmet. I can't really give you a reason why he's wearing it. He just really wanted to wear it while he had his snack and watched Kipper. Despite a low grade fever that disappeared by bath time he seemed to bounce back thanks to a ton of resting.

I hate seeing our little bud sick, we're so glad to see him on the mend. It really reminded us that withy the end of summer comes the beginning of cold season.  We certainly haven't missed colds, and we will be glad to have our happy little guy back on time for his Nana to see him in the morning!

Toddler Tuesday: Snack Mix

I don't know why until recently I hadn't thought about this. I always concerned myself with Jacks snack requests and took them seriously. He has specific ideas, as do we all, about what he wants when he wants it as far as snacks. He is very clear at least, so I'm not confused.

We bounced between a variety of crackers and cereals. The problem would arise when I would wrongly anticipate the snack and he would fuss. Now, I'm not suggesting that this kid must be catered to like royalty but it is nice to have snacks on hand that work for both of us.

So I combined a bunch of his favs and its working out great. I've mixed cheerios, penguins, ritz, shreddies and Crispix. More importantly he has become much less agitated and ornery about snacks. I keep a mix in the stroller and my purse in Tupperware which has put an end to carrying multiple snacks in wrappers etc.

We are loving the mix! Like any fussy little guy he can now just pick and choose as he pleases which I think in a way makes him less apt to demand different things.  He graciously shares his snacks too which is nice for me and of course our little miss Lubear!
