Toddler Tuesday: Trip to Grammies house!

We decided to get back to Greenwood and head to the zoo today! It is so nice for it to be a quick drive to Papa and Mimi's house. We just dropped our things, picked up Mimi and zoomed to the zoo. Spent most of the drive time singing "We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo... How about you, you, you?" Thank you Raffi for the one. Jack tried to sing along and mastered the  zoo zoo zoo part :) loves to rock, this kid. The moment we pulled into the zoo he greeted it like an old friend gasping "awwwwwwwww Hi, Zoo!!"

There have been so many little changes in the month that has gone by! We were thrilled that our favourite pigs had babies and spent a little time chatting before moving on.

Neighbourhood Love

We have been so blessed to move into a very lovely neighbourhood. It's peaceful and friendly - and they have all welcomed us with open arms. Between meeting them on our morning walks and while we are out playing in the yard we're in daily contact with many of them. After moving so often in the last few years we are excited to have moved to a place where we know our neighbours. And they LOVE having Jack around he is the new celebrity on the street!
He was given a new bike from our next door neighbours which I posted pictures of on Facebook over the weekend. He was so in love with it and kept insisting he was JUST like Elmo who rides a bike in our potty video. He was so pleased. Today Papa dropped off Jack's bike helmet and we hit the open road.

Upgraded bedtime routine: First Bubble Bath

Jack absolutely loves his nightly bath. He plays with a motley crew toys gathered since he was a newborn and greets them eagerly each night like old friends. He loves getting soaped up, shampooing his animals and toys, and watching the suds float around.

So you can imagine how thrilled he was when he saw the bath filling with water - and bubbles!!

He played and played and played. I expected him to wildly interested and then just go back to his normal bath time antics. But he silently played with his animals, looked at the bubbles moving, poked his toes through the bubble mountains, and explored the bubbly goodness.

We have stayed away from bubble bath because he has mildly sensitive skin and we didn't want to tempt fate to a horrible full body rash. But everything went fine and he had a blast :)  he loved being rinsed standing up in an empty tub afterwards too! We will totally do it again. I have a feeling this bath ruined all other future baths that don't have bubbles!

Most awesome and most mellow bath he's had in a long time :) Happy Sunday eve everyone! Get geared up for Monday, maybe a bubble bath is just what everyone needs to get ready for another week. Haha!

An Organizing Project: the Cluttered Pantry

It's okay to judge me, this was getting out of control. I actually knew that by taking a "before picture" of the cupboards I would have to follow through because I was horrified by the clutter.

Okay it's not just cluttered - it was unbearable. The opened duplicate boxes of things (more specifically 4 boxes of macaroni and 3 boxes of ritz crackers!), the complete mayhem as far as categorizing things on certain selves and not being able to fit things back in the same shelf I just took it off were all DRIVING US CRAZY. It just took one sippy cup landslide when I was in a humidity-induced cranky mood to push this Momma over the edge. I regrouped after kicking the cups around in a fit and decided it was time to really organize our pantry.

Wordless Wednesday: Potty time Photo Booth

As we work on getting Jack more comfortable hanging out on the potty we have a wide array of things for him to do while in the bathroom. A bunch of plastic Dino's, several books on many topics including potty time, and Momma's iPad mini for endless amount of fun in Photobooth. Jack can fully operate the ap on his own and LOVES posing. Haha what a shock ;).

Yup. He is doing a duck face selfy. This kid is hip!

Toddler Tuesday: Conquering the front yard

The weather today was fabulous for a morning stroll! Jack brought along his buddy Bear and was very content to let Lucy and I really explore for a whole hour of hilly walking. Since rain was on the way we got out early and were able to enjoy the cool breeze and bright sunshine. It inspired me to tackle a hurdle I've been putting off - actually playing in our front yard. I know that sounds ridiculous but let me explain.

Ok, there isn't much to explain except he's my first baby and I'm wildly protective of him. Our front yard isn't fenced obviously and that makes me a bit nervous because of the street right there. Don't get me wrong... We have next to no traffic on our street and mostly everyone is 60+ and drives at a significantly reduced speed. Did I mention I'm fiercely protective of this kid?!

With the breeze blowing and his awesome slide out to play with, Jack had a blast romping around the yard kicking a ball and chasing me. His newest thing is pushing me or Scott around by the back of the legs and saying "Go!" as he directs us where he wants. Naturally he loved directing me around the yard and we visited nearly every corner of it. Thankfully we have at least adjusted his phrase to "Go pllleaseee" so he doesn't sound so much like a little tyrant.

Watching the garbage truck pull up on our street was thoroughly exciting since we usually watch from the big window. Despite my horrible fear that Jack would run towards the truck and be flattened by the huge tires as it raced by ( in my nightmare they are speed demons that apparently love running over kids), I let him do his own thing and he chose to watch from the top of the slide. He even reached for my hand to hold when the truck got closer for some reassurance since it was very rumbly and loud. So perhaps he isn't the wild daredevil I thought he was, and I'm relieved.

He mostly stayed on our yard on the grass except to pop over to the window of Scott's office to say hi to Dada and Sirius. It's hard to tell but Sirius is getting poked in the forehead by Jack through the screen. Strangly Sirius enjoyed it so Jack returned every few minutes to give him some love haha.

Knowing that it's not a disaster to play out front, we will find more time to do it when the weather is nice :). I was relieved that I didn't need to constantly chase him back into our yard and he had fun playing on his slide which I was worried it would be too small in his eyes compared to the park. Obviously my fears were a little exaggerated and I feel much better now. I am not generally a nervous person either but that just goes to show you what being a mother does to someone haha.

Lunenburg Vacation Day 3 and coming home!

We started our last day with a delicious breakfast at the Savvy Sailor. Eggs, local smoked bacon, seven grain toast, and delicious coffee! Not to mention the cutest creamer I have ever seen. If I used creamers ever I would have begged them for it.

We headed out on a very beautiful drive on the Lighthouse Route down by the south shore. It was amazing to see all the old homes right on the sea. Now, that said, I spent the rest of the afternoon recovering from the dips and bends of the road.

I did manage to recover though and we found a perfect keepsake for me :)! It's a spinner ring or meditation ring from one of the local shops. I have absolutely enjoyed it and feel like it is a wonderful reminder of the fun we had together in such a sweet little town.

Dinner was completely amazing. We ate at the Old Fish Factory and they were packed. Thankfully we were just a table of two and so we got a wonderful seat at the window.

My meal was so amazing - Scallop stuffed Salmon with a mustard-maple sauce and garlic mashed potato. Scott had crab, lobster and cream cheese stuffed haddock.

We loved our vacation away relaxing, touring and feasting! But we got up early and grabbed breakfast to go. It was wonderfully cool today weather wise compared to yesterday and made for a speedy trip home.

Where we received a loving and warm welcome! Seeing his little face light up and he screamed "Momma and Daddy!" as we pulled in the driveway.

Jack's Vacation

Jack had three days of Mimi and Papa all to himself! He had a blast playing, adventuring and showing them all the things he loves to do! I had to share the pics I treasured and we poured over while we were in Lunenburg.

Enjoying a trip to the park and showing Papa just how I like to swing :)!

Vacation to Lunenburg Day 2: Touring, food and relaxing!

Today we toured all around the town on foot, by car, and down into creepy distillery basements (ah the stuff of my nightmares!). We had a blast! Most amazingly the weather was just right with rain all morning and then it held off for most of the day just staying cloudy and breezy. Love it after all this heat.

Inside the building of the distillery smeller amazing. They had just put on a new batch of their rum and the molasses smell was like a delightful punch in the face when you walked in. Scott's hair smelled like it for the rest of the day - delicious! It was such a unique building and we returned in the afternoon for the tour of their facilities.

Vacation to Lunenburg Day 1: Tourists!

Did we see lots of tourists? Sure! Were we annoyed by their snapping pics of everything and crowding stores and restaurants? Not at all. We were too busy being tourists ourselves!!

All of our day was spent getting settled in town, walking through a ton of shops, taking pics of how adorable this town is, and eating. Yumm.

Our hotel has a delicious restaurant and spa on site! We had dinner on their patio and it was heavenly. After spending all day outside walking in the hot sun, sitting on a cool patio with drinks and amazing meals was just what the doctor ordered.

This evening we hung up our tourist hat and have entered relaxation mode. Books, wine, iPad, pjs, and watching video updates from Mimi and Jack. I cannot tell you how strange it is to be without him - and I cried seeing the first video update of him. But it has been really great to have time to relax, follow my own schedule and not have 10x the things to carry/juggle on outings. Three days will be plenty time to be away since we miss him already - but we're going to soak up every moment and enjoy!

Appreciating technology New and Old!

Excitingly my iPad mini arrived today!!! We were able to get a free one with our Bell package installation for cable, phone and Internet. It took a little (a lot) of fanangaling on Scott's part to get the promotion with our bundle but I am so appreciative of his persistence because I'm in LOVE!

Big Boy at the Table

There are some things that go on as Jack grows up that feel huge, and others that are supposed to feel huge and don't really shock me into contemplating him growing up.  Jack sitting up on his own surprised me (when I realized he could sit up alone!), but didn't feel very milestone like as we were eagerly waiting for others to happen. But this booster chair was big! This one was one that felt huge and brought tears to my eyes to see such a big boy at the table eating with us.

Jack thoroughly enjoys eating dinner with us at the table.  He is more interested in watching us eat, being a part of our dinnertime chats and noticing we are eating things that aren't tofu, blueberries, avocado, cheese, and applesauce.  Excitingly this guy is trying more and more foods and we're loving it.  Making a separate meal for him at every meal is wearing thin and I would love for him to eat more things we do.  This week he has loved chicken, BBQ Potato and onions, salmon, corn on the cob (but pulled off the cob. So corn off the cob?), eggs, bagel, and flavoured yogurt (he's adamant about his yogurt being plain).

The other thing I'm loving is we get to use this cutie food tray for little ones eating at tables.  I bought it when we first moved to Greenwood from Shoppers.  I had seen one used once a year before at East Side Marios in Fredericton.  The little kid was eating chopped up chicken fingers off it and the little tray was catching nearly every single one and then he would eat it out of the tray.  I thought it was brilliant to have in your diaper bag, we certainly could have used it several times during our move to NS.  Turns out since I bought it I've had no reason to use it until now. LOVE IT :). It suction cups down to the table and wipes off easily.

I had to share this picture of him in the chair. Big kid! He's wearing adorable GAP skinny jeans from his GreatGrandma Joanie which make his legs look much longer than they actually are, but he is tall without them too.  This chair suits him perfectly, and he ironically calls it "Baby Chair" because of the baby on the box when we bought it.
