Mail-Order Peony

You can buy perennials on the Internet and have them live in a box through the mail between the nursery and your garden?! Who knew!

Okay I did. But I didn't really believe it was possible for it to work out. I found a great online site called "Blooms Canada" and they were reasonably priced with good selection.  Let me tell you - it worked out perfectly!

The Day Jack Dislocated His Elbow

Actually, he partially dislocated his elbow. To be honest, at the time it happened I had no idea! We were in the vets office getting our pets registered and Jack was goofing around holding my hand and running around in circles. Jack slipped and fell and cried so I picked him up and held him the rest of the time. He cried on and off which was so unlike him, he's usually such a flirt. I attributed his sadness connected to saying goodbye to Lucy just minutes before at the groomer. When we got home he wanted right up on the couch and pouted on my lap occasionally crying. He insisted on Kipper and moaned about "dog..... dog!" the whole time. Poor little dude, I thought he was heartbroken over Lucy.

The Day the Furniture Arrived

We have talked about buying a furniture set since we started living together! We knew we didn't want our livingroom furniture until the painting was done and we were moved in so we didn't rush into it.  We shopped around online and waited for a sale then pounced when the moment was right.

Our furniture at Leon's in the show room.
We had an idea of what we wanted, so it made shopping in a big sales floor very easy. With kids and pets you're limited to select colors and material if you're smart. For example, with cats and a white dog we stayed away from leather or anything dark coloured.

In 45 minutes it was obvious to us we were partial to getting a neutral colour and dressing it up with accessories that are easily replaceable as our whims change. That said, we were tempted by some really funky options. In the end we got the couch set that made the most sense for our lifestyle despite all the gorgeously unique sets in livingrooms we saw on Pinterest. Darn you Pinterest and your imaginary world. :)

Toddler Tuesday: Reuniting with old friends!

When we moved all our things out of our house in Fredericton it was hard to pack away Jacks toys because he loves them all a bunch. Of course I knew it wasn't forever and he would see them again in the future.  So I did my best to put away ones he played with the least, or ones that were just too big etc.
Notice how the whole bottom shelf is cleared off .. bahaha he loves to spread out his stuff. :) Good thing we have the space for it and when he's done everything has a place to return to!

Getting settled into a sea of boxes!

Well we are moved into our house and have spent our first night :) we all had great sleeps and it is feeling more and more like home by the minute! The delivery of a beautiful flower arrangement today really brightened up our home :) Thanks so much Nana Dawn and Gamp!

We are feverishly unpacking things to make life comfortable while we get settled. Until you're fully unpacked its the annoyingly important things you have trouble locating. A colinder or Jacks stash of matching socks (of course no problem finding the stash of unmatched socks) have proved illusive for the moment although they're surely here somewhere in the sea of boxes.

Scott superbly unpacked 90% of our kitchen and got it all in a great layout before we moved in so that has been a dream. Although I have no idea where anything is its definitely better than having to dig through boxes!

Jacks which-way-to-the-beach?! pose really means "that way is my playroom. Make it happen Momma!" He is in love with the big play space downstairs which was a huge selling feature for us. Again it is dazzlingly pink but mellowed compared to the previous upstairs colour.

Best of all the downstairs rec room is is large enough to accommodate a play room and TV/Family room so we can enjoy Jack playing and be comfortable on a couch. I must say my morning coffee (although very early at 5:30 this morning) was comfortable snuggled up on our beloved sectional.

We decided to separate the sectional to allow for best viewing of the TV and it nicely separates the playroom from the TV room too. While we weren't in favour of separating them at first, it really worked perfectly! I also like how it lowers the chances of Jack running into the post while he's flailing around playing.

With all the shelving and all Jacks toys I'm excited (that's right genuine excitement about toy storage!) to have a place for everything and use bins to keep a lot of his small toys organized.

Our pets are settling in magnificently. I actually was anticipating much more of a problem! They are in love with the many-degrees-cooler basement with carpet and all their familiar furniture.

Lucy and Sirius (sworn enemies since Lucy came into our family) have been strangely snuggly - with each other!! Over 2,000 sq ft of living space and they must share the same half sectional.

All I can say is we are happy to be here :) must be contagious!
I would post more pictures but honestly it all just looks the same. Large furniture with tons of boxes surrounding them. We hope to make some great progress before Wednesday because that is when our upstairs furniture set arrives! Stay tuned!

Road Trip To the Pitmans!

We decided to take a break from all the packing, moving and renovating and go on a little road trip to Eastern Passage! It was really nice to switch up our routine, although I'll admit I was a little nervous to totally break from our normal routine and try something different.  Not because I don't want to do different things, but because I worry about upsetting the delicate balance of life with a toddler and pets.   It was a good chance to go visit because this would be our last free day for a little while since the moving craziness begins tomorrow. Also, Lucy is off her walks this week since she injured her leg while playing on the weekend and so it wouldn't disrupt her routine too much.

8am - I've got my snacks and Elmo on the go.  Lets drive!

A few Words Wednesday: Having Fun waiting for the movers!

Somehow my blogging has been not as frequent! Just the way the days and evenings have gone for the last week it has been terribly busy and I've been extra tired in the evening. Anyway now that we are done renovations and getting ready to move in (two sleeps till movers!!) I will definitely be back to blogging.
Got your water bottle ready Momma, lets go!

Home Renovations: The Last Few Reno Projects!

This weekend we spent both days finishing up all our projects because this Friday coming is when our movers arrive and we move in :) How exciting!  It also meant that we wanted to get these projects finished so we didn't need to worry about it once our things were trying to get into place.

Toddler Tuesday: Must Love Dogs!

To be a part of our family I feel that is totally true. We will still accept you if you don't, but you'll be happier in our company if you love to cuddle a canine.

It was a Painting Palooza!

This weekend we tackled the big pink monster that was our upstairs walls.  With just half the foyer done with primer it already felt bigger and brighter.  Another reason why Scotty and I are just perfect for each other: He doesn't mind tall ladders. I would rather not climb them, but especially with a paint roller in my hand!

Weekend Plans: Paint the town Red!

Er, paint the house yellow and green that is.  :)

Jacks room with the walls painted and ready for flooring!
Last night we headed up to the house and tackled Jacks room.  I'm not a terribly experienced painter like Scott so I took lessons from him on how to cut in around the ceiling (NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS) and by the end of the evening I felt really comfortable doing it.  We get the entire first coat painted last night and this morning we finished the second coat.  It is ready for flooring tomorrow!

Home Improvements: How to Get Rid of Textured Paint

Did you ever wonder about how to get rid of textured paint? It's likely that you haven't unless you've come across the situation we are in.
Hello, Dolly! That is a lot of pink, no?
The upstairs of our house is flooded with a very punchy salmon colour. That can be primed and its gone quite easily. But then they really got funky and did painted stripes down both sides of the wall. When we did our original viewing of the house we snickered at the odd wallpaper choice. It wasn't until we were there for the home inspection that we realized it was painted on. I think it fooled us into being wallpaper because of the precision of the stripes and feel of their final coat of paint. It is a pale pink rolled over the stripes to achieve a textured feel.

Toddler Tuesday: Developing Fine Motor Skills

Its hard to believe that gone are the days that I am working hard to help Jack learn how to walk and crawl. This little baby is growing up quick into a big kid! We work on little tasks every day to build up Jack's fine motor skills.  Between games on the iPad, lift the flap books, colouring, painting and playing with smaller toys Jack is getting a really good handle on things.  Every child is different and learns best when they do what works for them.  When it comes to Jack, he enjoys it most when things are a game and when he has someone doing it with him.  I had to take a video of our lunchtime antics because words wouldn't do it justice!

Results of our Renovation Weekend!

This 81st Apple Blossom weekend we didn't soak up much of the celebrations because we were too busy celebrating getting the keys to our house! Fortunately for the parade and concerts the weather was beautiful to be outside sipping cool drinks and relaxing.

Ripping up the first of the carpet Friday afternoon - goodbye old carpet!
Unfortunately for us it was hot, humid, sweaty and generally uncomfortable to be ripping up carpet, having wallpaper gluey water running down your arms, and putting down laminate flooring. That said, we kicked butt getting things done! We spent LOTS of time at the house over the weekend with Dad working on projects and accomplished everything we hoped to and more this early in the game.

Welcome to our Home Part Three: Bringing our Baby Home!

We have had a sweaty but successful weekend of renovations! I'll share more on that this week divided into a couple blogs because we have been really busy!

I wanted to share with you the most fun part of Friday (except for buying a ton of reno supplies at Home Depot) was bringing Jack to see his new home! He LOVE running around and checking everything out.

Welcome to Our Home Part Two: Video Walkthrough!

Here's a series I put together on my iPhone yesterday.  Its a complete walkthrough of our empty home - ready to be renovated and redone :)!

We have had beautiful weather this weekend for Apple Blossom - but a little warm for ripping up carpets and taking down wall paper! At least the plants and lawn is loving it :)
I did it in several parts so they were quick to view and hopefully wouldn't cause too much trouble on my blog... if you have trouble watching them I apologize - I've done my best on my end to make sure it works!

Oh, I had better warn you. There is a LOT of pink in there so don't be alarmed - it isn't my iPhone acting up, that's the real colour of the walls and carpet ;)

Come up our walkway and into our front door!
