Toddler Tuesday: Mommas New Mug!

Our trip to Michael's last week was a complete success because I went there intending to buy nothing and came away with lots of great stuff. Geesh, that always happens at Michaels though - so many wonderful things!

Murky Monday: When will the rain end?

I don't think we've been properly dry for a week. This rain is making us squirrely!

Jack enjoying his first Timbit over the weekend on a VERY rainy walk.
While it hasn't rained consistently all week, it's been threatening to nearly 24/7. We always seem to get caught in some kind of drizzle when we go out.  Yet it hasn't been cold enough to wear a big rain coat just incase of rain, so I'm usually in non-rain appropriate sweaters or coats when it does come down. I have to admit that everything looks lovely and green since it has been rainy.  The leaves are all out and beautiful and gardens are really flourishing.  But for some reason I can't seem to shake off this damp chill from all the cool weather.

Musical Motivation: Learning to Run 5k and Starships!

I have been inspired to take up running, just after I seemed to make peace with the fact with that I'd likely never be a good runner.  With spring here and SO MANY DARN PEOPLE ON MY FACEBOOK/TWITTER running marathons (no really, thanks guys! Keep sharing your successes you are inspiring!) Well - I'm just not ready to settle yet!  I love my morning 5k walks with Lucy and Jack but I really wanted to push myself to get into running. If that's possible. And don't worry, there is an app for that. :)

I have a theory about working out and big plans.   If you make the plans and they involve buying lots of things to start you off its just not going to happen.  Spending the $$ alone seems to bring enough satisfaction towards the goal that I stop there.  I know I'm not alone in this because there is an absurd amount of tredmills, bo-flexes and ellipticals for sale on Kijiji that are "LIKE NEW" or "NEVER USED".  With that in mind I opted for the highest rated free app so I didn't invest too much and give up before I start.
Great 5K Runner app that voice prompts over your music, beeps,  awards you badges and I'm sure other things I haven't figured out yet.

Exploring Margaretsville Beach!

On this lovely long weekend we enjoyed some decent weather for a bit - and headed to the beach as soon as the sun came out.  We dressed warm for heading to the shore but as it turns it out it was beautiful and warm.

Scott doing his "I discovered this land!" pose
We had a ton of fun introducing Jack to the rocks (he LOVES throwing rocks - just as much as he did here) although it was tricky walking on them with such little feeties. He did really well and by the end he had his "rock legs" as Grammie called them and he could motor all over the place.

Homemade Pierogis: Recipe and How-we-do!

We love to make pierogis - by the dozens! We freeze them after the boiling stage and then fry them as wanted. They are delicious fried up with sour cream or with gravy according to Dad. I have wonderful memories of eating a huge amount every time we went to visit our Gramma Joanie. She taught us how to make them and they're a family favourite. We love to make them when family gets together because many hands make light work - and of course its fun to make food together!

Homemade Pierogis
Makes around 40 (?) Seriously we meant to count but we started eating...

First Haircut, Garbage Picking and Keeping Busy on a Gloomy Day!

We woke up this morning to gloomy weather. I don't know exactly what it is about morning - but I love it! Everything starting fresh and the whole day ahead of you to accomplish things. Somehow though I love it less when it's gloomy out, which isn't really fair. Regardless of how I felt inside I resolved to carry on with our normal walk and play for the morning.
He made himself especially pathetic on the chair striking a "woe is me pose"... I wasn't the only one not enjoying the gloomy weather!

A few Words Wednesday: Biking around town doing errands

Instead of doing a bit of errands today in the car we busted out the bike and trailer. It was great to bike a ways then hop off into a store and bike some more. I must say there is the added challenge of locking up the bike and getting Jack in and out. But really no more work than using a car as far as the Jack juggling. And yes we were those dorky people wearing our bike helmets in the post office because I didn't want to carry them.

A Day in the Life: A blog by Jack and his MagnaDoodle!

Last year, I did a blog from Jack's perspective detailing the highlights of his day.   We used a cute mini magna doodle to write little captions for each picture and it was a really fun day!  When I was unpacking some of our things I found the little magna doodle and thought it would be fun to do it again.

Doing it this year was much harder - Jack moves A LOT. And we do a lot of things in the course of the day that don't lend well to carrying around a magna doodle. I found last time that when I was taking the pictures during our day I was worried that it wouldn't be enough stuff for a blog.  (which wasn't the case) Today it seemed like we were doing so much I missed a bunch of things because I just couldn't stop to write a message on the magnadoodle before it was over.

I often read back on my old blogs about how things were this time last year to give me perspective on Jack, motherhood, life etc.  It is a wonderful thing to have your life chronicled in blog form :). I hope that I can keep up the blogging so we will have a great family keepsake.

Without further adieu, I give you Jack's blog!

Why Everyone Should Have Their Own Blog & More Shameless Goat Pictures

This is why I think everyone should write their own blogs. I would love to follow along more people's daily blog that I actually know in real life (if you make your own blog I promise I will follow it - do it!). It is a really fun way to document your life, your family and your kids. And then you would all know how ridiculous it seems sometimes when you're writing a post. It's incredible how much you can come up with to blog that's interesting and other days only things that would interest yourself. Today is one of those days, my friends.

My new outfit today is a comfy black tee and grey cargo pants that roll up nicely into capris.  Since this morning was chilly they were the perfect choice! I'm digging the comfortable outfits this season - nothing too ridiculous since I need to be able to be flexible enough to wrangle a toddler tantrum or bike with the trailer.
Teeny little baby goat charming us :).

Happy Mother's Day: Wardrobe Refresh and a handpicked flower!

Hey, Momma. Happy Mother's Day! I thought it would be a perfect day to pick you a flower for the first time.  (MELTED MY HEART)
My little Major Hunk stealing my heart. <3
Oh yuck. I should have rethought this digging in the dirt business.

No more baby stuff, Momma!

This little guy is growing up - and he is making it known! Jack had put his foot down when it comes to meal times. He has decided he's no longer pleased with having anyone else feed him. Which would be alright if he was practiced up with utensils. I didn't even notice how much we were helping him until the help is unwelcome. But now that he refuses any help he's getting a lot of practice!

Mess mess mess mess - but he's learning a ton!

A few words Wednesday: Brunettify! A much needed change!

Shazammm - time to go brunette!

Maintenance is so much simpler (and cheaper!) and it's much closer to my natural hair colour and in my opinion just more me for better or worse :) don't worry I won't leave all the fun to the blondes or wannabes! With my split ends taken care of, my fringe back and my hair all chocolatey brown I am at peace with looking in the mirror again (and not criticizing my roots!). While many do in fact go lighter for summer I am bucking the trend and just going with the more me look.

Yes, Jack was shocked and confused and took an hour to warm up to the idea that I am his Momma. It took sharing a piece of crater cake and playing in the tub to convince him. Hilarious!

Thanks for stopping by and enjoying another post about our brunette (except Lucy!) Happily Hectic Household!

Toddler Tuesday: Cycling Success and Exploring a new park!

Now that the weather is getting so lovely we have been able to do much more outings (without freezing to death) than we were able to do even a month ago.  Despite running errands around town I made lots of time to get out and go biking.  I picked stopping at this park because it would give me lots of time to rest up before biking back.  It turns out I probably didn't need the rest but stopping at the park was TOTALLY worth it.

Ready to wrestle an angry croc!

The Bike Trailer: A new addition to our daily routine

I've heard (from my homeboy Tony Robbins - love him) that if you say things with confidence and believe them to have already happened they can easily become a part of your reality. So my confident announcement that the bike trailer is a new addition to our routine is my way of helping myself believe it is possible.

This all began last year while I spent nearly every day as a regular on the Fredericton trails. They are amazing!  Of course I had little baby Jack in his BOB with Lucy and we walked a ton.  I encountered many bikers and with that came the bike trailers.  I loved seeing the kids in them because they were having a blast, enjoying a snack, or having a good snooze.  I knew I wanted to have one for Jack and it would be a great way for me to exercise.  Of course the whole thing unravelled when I found out how much they cost.  But one yard sale and $35 later (thanks Grammie) this was going to happen!

Our kick butt bike trailer! Also doubles as a jogging stroller which is great if we didn't have the BOB.
Getting all cleaned up for its first trip out.
I'm certainly not a nervous biker. I remember biking furiously up and down the neighbourhood on my sweet red BMX bike dad assembled from a kit all summer long for what felt like my whole childhood.  I love biking and have awesome memories of it. But actually, when I pondered this I had a hard time pinning down exactly when was the last time I went biking.  The more I thought about it the more concerned I became and felt like this whole "go biking with Jack" brain child was too much.  I realized its possible I haven't biked since I was .. maybe 16? Which didn't seem that bad to me until I realized that was actually 10 years ago. AGH!

Just leaving the driveway - so tense!
Of course they say that riding a bike is something you'll never forget how to do but I did seriously question my ability to bike safely with Jack in a TRAILER ATTACHED TO MY BIKE.  The thought actually was terrifying.  I felt that wave of complete crazy anxiety for my child's safety akin to when we drove him home from the hospital and I badgered Scott not to drive too fast (Because 45km was TOO FAST) and sniped every time he turned too quickly.

Jack after we got back from our zoom around the block! Loved it and SO ready for more.  Also - his bike helmet was an AWESOME Kijiji find for $10!
I spent a lot of the afternoon scrubbing down the new-to-us bike trailer we got for $35 at a yardsale.  With some minor repairs to the tires and a serious scrubbing down with soap and a brush then vinegar (my new cleaning obsession) spritzed on and sunshine to dry (but we saved at least $150 buying this used rather than new - LOVE IT) the trailer was ready. But was I??

This cute little face told me everything - "I love this! Momma we are going biking - now".  Surprisingly, I did just fine going down the road and felt encouraged so I went around the block.  Of course the hill up the next road was unwelcome and biking on the actual road and not the sidewalk nearly gave me a heart attack.  Papa caught up with us halfway on our short journey and I felt better having backup.  We made it back to the house and Jack was SO excited.  I felt the relief of pulling into the driveway and knew it would take some getting used to.  Papa took Jack out for a quick spin and I decided I need to come up with a game plan to be able to do this without stressing years off my life.

So tonight I went out with Scott on a mission to get comfortable biking with the trailer.  Scott was my backup incase I got into trouble or killed myself driving around.  He was very patient and reassuring! We left Jack behind and so I had no reservations about trying out new routes.  It was the best thing! We biked through a ton of paths and I took it over lots of bumps, corners and tight squeezes to understand how it handled.  After 5km of biking I felt pretty confident.  I am ready to go out on my own tomorrow with Jack - eep. Wish us luck!

One and a Half birthday celebrations!

We celebrated Jack turning one and a half today! It was a beautiful day outside and we enjoyed playing all day. In the early morning we headed to our favorite park with Auntie Ashley. Jack even got to bring his big truck because we didn't have Lucy to also manage walking over there. Sadly I somehow forgot to snap any pics because I was too busy catching up with Ash! Safe to say, we had a blast.

Scotty and I picked up the most amazing creation at Superstore today to celebrate Jack's half birthday - Chocolate-Brownie-Chunk-Caramel-Nut-Chocolate-Glazed-Cheesecake deliciousness. Okay that might not be the actual name on the tag, but that is exactly what it was.

(Belated) Film Friday: A Boy and His Truck

Snuggles from earlier in the week during the headcold phase of this sickness.
Sadly this blog is late. More sadly its because sickness has taken over our little family in the form of stomach flu. Agh, I wish I could say it was just Jack who is sick but I've been sick too leaving super-Daddy to take care of us. Thanks to his awesomeness we're both recovering speedily :)

Growing boy: Time to get some new summer kicks!

As the seasons change I realize only too much how Jack has grown since we moved back to Nova Scotia.  I am pulling out more zipper up sweaters from our mountain of clothes and tucking away the winter coats.  Trading in thick fleecy mittens for the thinner dollarstore variety (you know the kind you used to make those adorable "hand-bunnies" out of) to keep his hands warm but not sweaty on our morning strolls.  I was aghast to figure out that the shoes that were pretty tight in November look like doll clothes next to Jack months later.  Its hard to believe that in a few months from now I will look back on these and think "How did his fat little feet ever cram into these?!" Either way he's going to keep growing and I need to keep ontop of it. Because his adorable Bogs with shorts just is comical.
