Jack's day out!

Before I get into today's blog I want to remind you to head over here and enter to win a lovely cowl that I'm giving away to celebrate the opening of my Etsy Shop! I spent nap time listing lots of things so check it out. I am SO thrilled with all of your suggestions - I can't wait to get knitting away and list more items.
A new item in my Etsy shop added today! Listed here.
Today we had a busy day getting out of the house and playing. We started off by going for a playdate at Diane's and playing with her two adorable girls. Jack is certainly smitten with them and enjoyed all their assortment of toys. Clearly he was all played out by the time we got home for lunch...

Most hilarious Jack picture I've seen in a while... :)

Toddler Tuesday: The perfect sledding hill!

Jack and I are really enjoying the Nova Scotian winter weather - especially on days like today where it is sunny and very mild! This week has been very nice so we have been out walking everyday. But today was especially nice so instead of walking after lunch we saved that for later and headed out to the front yard to play.

Being home is wonderful for all !

Being home means I get lots of time with my Momma. It's awesome :) we missed each other. But here are some other things we are loving about being home!

Being home means we get to go to church with Grammie!

Being home means we get to help out with errands like taking Grammie to get to eyes checked!

Being home means Mommy has lots of time to take me out on adventures in the snow.

Being home means I can run down the road without worrying about speedy cars.

Being home means Lucy gets lots of walks with everyone!

Fabulous Frenchys Find - Its an Elmo-palooza!

Ashley and I went on a Frenchys date which we used to do really often when we both lived in Greenwood.  Even though its a happening place on Sunday, we managed to find a great deal of great stuff - mostly all for Jack. Okay actually all for Jack. But we had a great time looking through all the cutie little clothes and toys.

Roasted Edamame with Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper

Goodness - I actually missed a blog entry yesterday. THAT is a strange moment in my life. I always sit down after dinner and blog - but life is a little hectic trying to sort our lives out while we get settled and care for a sick little boy. But without further delay I had to share this yummy side dish I made this week that I found on Pinterest.

Cooking dinner in Heels!

Oh wait - of course not ME cooking in heels. (Im rocking bare feet, yoga pants and a tshirt covered in dried baby snot) Jack is our little beauty keeping this household classy :).

I had big plans of posting a delicious edamame side dish recipe tonight however these pictures were too cute not to share.

Step aside edamame, this cutie is stealing this blog. He really did walk around the whole upstairs with one of Grammies heels on. He found it and demanded to wear it. Daddy put it on for him and he never looked back.

Toddler Tuesday: Veggie Muffins

I find it hard to believe it is already Tuesday! Although I thought for most of the day yesterday that it was Tuesday so this kind feels like a repeat haha. Now that we are in the midst of unpacking boxes, combining our things into the household I had to make up some new foods for Jack for our freezer. I've been dying to try this recipe a mommy friend of mine shared with me. (Thanks Lauren!) Its a great recipe for combining fruits AND veggies to draw in even the pickiest little eater to eat something good for them.

Love. Love. Love. And our chunky cherub!

Happy valentines day everyone! (If you are boycotting this day, then I'm not wishing it to you so don't be offended. I have to be so careful these days, so many not celebrating!) If mentioning the v-word has upset you - big woop. Haters gonna hate. But that won't stop me from blogging about our little chunky cherub. ;)

Toddler Tuesday: Potty time!

Here we are again to Tuesday already. Oh my!  Seems like time is flying when we have so little time to get so many things done. Enough about packing, I'm so tired of it! Onto some fun toddler things.

Feeties on a potty? Too cute!

Dinner-saver and Simplicity: Pork Tenderloin Rub!

As promised, here is our favourite rub recipe! (I know that I'm fulfilling my promise a day late - but I was in a food coma last night from having a wonderful afternoon at my goodbye par-tay! Thanks all <3) Its originally intended to be used on slow-cooked ribs with a sauce, but we are diggin' this rub on pork tenderloin.  Excellent way to spruce up a $3.45 piece of meat into a five star meal. It has been a life saver for us when we have the best intentions of marinating meat but don't get around to it until 4:50pm. Bring on the rub!

Snowmageddon and Bobbing for Cheerios!

We enjoyed a wonderful Saturday all together in this chaotic home. Packing has reached a new level of craziness as the boxes pile higher in every room.  It was a perfect morning to stay inside and avoid the snow...
At the top of our road leading onto a highway. Yipes!

Getting Crafty: Orange Rind Bird Feeder

Although it has been over a week since I did this craft with my preschoolers I just had to share it with you all. On the eve of a huge blizzard, no better time to get some fun ideas out there to do with kids. This one is cute AND functional - not always true of every craft a preschooler makes haha. Also this is terrific replacement for the oh-so-awesome-but-not-peanut-free peanut butter pine cone bird feeder.

Toddler Science: Safari Animal Grow Capsules

This was one of the funnest things I have done with Jack. I think these things are the coolest darn thing you can buy for a dollar. It amazingly kept him quiet during a critical time in our day. And the most important reason of all - he found it really fun.

I bought these on a whim at Walmart today because I picked them up and it qualified as cool/cheap/entertaining so in the cart it went. I loved these things as a kid and I thought on it as I walked up and down the aisles looking for large ziploc bags (which I didn't end up actually buying  because I got distracted by a strange looking lunchbox container and forgot my whole purpose for going to Walmart. Epic errand fail!) that I could do this with Jack when he was older.

I zipped around with Jack and picking up an awesome Kijiji find - $15 Swiffer Sweeper Vac which I have been dying for to get those annoying dustbunnies guinea-pig-sized-dog-fur-tumbleweeds without dragging out our vacuum every 20 minutes. (Okay, I exaggerate... its more like every hour that I find a new clump of dog fur hiding. You'd think we had a naked dog running around the house!)  After our Kijiji shopping and visiting Gail and Mert we headed home.  I quickly realized we only had 25 minutes until the house needed to be very quiet because Scott was having a conference call. Jack ate in record time and while I grabbed the pack of fizzing shapes and my supplies. With two minutes to spare, I grabbed Jack and desperately hoped this wouldn't end with me mopping the whole kitchen.

Toddler Tuesday: Packing Paper Canvas!

I wanted to start looking into different toddler games, crafts and activities for Jack now that I am home with him. A huge part of my work life has been programming for tons of kids each day and I love to do it! Jack is just going to have to be patient with me while he tests out the toddler things I dig up. Pinterest is covered with great things to do with kids and so I have taken it upon myself to share something with you each Tuesday that we have tried and our findings.

Big boy colouring a BIG PAGE.

Comforting Chicken Noodle Soup

As our week begins, both boys are sick with a bad cold.  Jack went off to Amy's for his last day with her (cut short - poor buddy just wasn't feeling great) and Scotty went into his office for the day hacking and sniffling.
Sorry Grammie - this soup is NOT for you. Too many peas to pick out! But everyone else can delight in the healthy splash of green in the soup bringing lots of fibres, protein, and vitamins.

Don't play in traffic!

But DO play in empty parking lots :)

The beautiful view while out playing!
Jack and I had a wonderful time adventuring in the snow today. It has been a little sad without snow - so it was such a surprise for us to wake up to a blanket of snow covering the ground.  Of course it threw a wrench in our plans to go for tea at a friends house because the roads were very slippery but thats what winter tires are for.
After a quick lunch we headed out up the road to let a sick Daddy rest up in a quiet home. I highly recommend to parents of young kids to go play in empty snow covered parking lots while you're out for walks. Why? Well the ground is even - no hidden lumps to trip up your little one in their snow gear. It won't make a huge difference that they're on pavement because everything is frozen solid anyway and to be honest its unlikely your kid will feel it when they fall. SO MUCH SNOW GEAR. Which is hilarious and practical all at once.
Angelic face contemplating all this beautiful snow... (but really watching our dog pee)

Whoops! Thanks to all the cushy snow pants/coat etc its just fun to fall.
It was really fun to sit out in the parking lot and play. Our own yard is sadly mostly on a hill and Jack seems to just get frustrated falling all over the place (for really cute baby in snow moments check out this post).  Our favourite place to play is the empty lot up the road. Today Jack loved waving to traffic, throwing mittfuls of snow up and tasting some flakes.

I can't express how happy I am to have an infinite amount of these moments to spend with Jack. Watching him play, learn and laugh is so wonderful.

Jack taking a rest as he climbs his Everest.
Helping Momma push the sled around.
While I'm sitting watching Jack play I looked down to see beautiful perfectly formed flakes!!
Laying in the snow catching flakes!
All in all a wonderful first weekend of being a SAHM (Stay a home Momma). I can't say I'm looking forward to packing and moving these next two weeks but I am really enthused to spend that time with our little man. I know that there will be times coming where I'll be ready to pull my hair out but for now this honeymoon stage is lovely :)
Smoochies in the snowfall.

Jack in a Box!

Jack in a box fort that is! He found this stack of boxes that popped up in our kitchen irresistible! (Our house is covered with piles of boxes at the moment.) All kids love boxes, and I'm glad he's able to have fun in them while we have so many huge ones and he is so tiny! Although not as tiny as he was this time last year when we moved!

Who is that chubby little cutie?
For more Jack in a box moments check out this blast from our not so distant past (Yuck we move too much)
