Making the most of my Mat leave: Learn to paint!

I have really enjoyed my maternity leave being home with Scotty and Jack. While we have all struggled adjusting to being together 24/7, it has been a blessing more than a burden haha.

These brushes worked fabulously - 5 for $1!

One thing about being in the home stretch of my 10 months of mat leave is that I am more motivated to squeeze all I can out of my last little while home. It is hard to get everything done I hope to during the day because I set my goals for the day sometimes a little too high. But now that Jack is older and so flexible and pleasant I can really dig into some of my goals.

Haha yes that is the baby monitor along with my painting things. Great photo representing my endeavours.

One in particular is try out painting something. I love to paint but like ... Kid style paint. You know - big goofy flowers, clouds, stick people.

Had SO much fun doing this!

But I hoped that while off work I could try painting something onto a canvas for our house or Jacks nursery. I don't have the time or funds to seriously pursue the art of painting at this point in my life, although I did make the effort to watch instructional videos on YouTube.

So Happy. Love my little bird family <3 Scott and I both agreed I'm on the left he's on the right.
Why? We're not sure but we both can identify with those littles birds strongly.

Finally did it :) I spied this on Pinterest and recreated it with my own twist (helllooo baby bird, much less branchy too). I can honestly say I enjoyed every moment and spent very little $$ on it.

The original piece is listed on etsy for $200. It was also very busy with weird swirls on the branches. I am happy I took it upon myself to make my own so I could make the changes I wanted to.  I spent 3 evenings and $17 (all supplies bought at Dollarama!) I'm so pleased with it and after I put a gloss coating on it tomorrow I'll hang it over Jacks bed.

  2. That is so sweet. And if you have another baby bird some day, you can simply paint it in. I love the brush look of the background. Amazing.

  3. I saw that art on Pinterest Michelle.. and you did an excellent job reproducing it with your own style. There's a future in art for you when you can make more time for it. I'm so glad you did now... I agree it is very fun and relaxing. Keep it up!! KofO
