Dinner in St. John's with the Quintons!

Today we drove from Gander to St. John's! While Jack didn't enjoy the long drive he loved seeing all the Quintons.

Playing on the trampoline with William!

We enjoyed dinner at Diana and Sheldon's house with all their kids. It was so nice to visit with them and Jack had a blast.

All the kids loved seeing Jack and playing. He so enjoyed the attention and games!

They taught him some piano and played lots!

They even had a present for Jack wrapped in a bow made from a satin sash from Meredith's dress at our wedding. So sweet! William picked the tshirt as he loves spiderman.

Great-Poppy's Red High Chair

Jack was able to try out Poppy's red high chair! It belonged to Jacks Great-Grandfather Poppy Max when he was a baby.

He loved trying to climb it and enjoyed siting in it too!

Had to share Scott doing the same thing! Like Daddy like baby!

Traveling to Newfoundland - Day One!

Big smiles at the airport!

Today is our big travel day! Drive from Greenwood to Halifax and fly to Gander!

Jack had been a great traveller and we has arrived safely in Gander!

Everything went smoothly for us!

Jarred baby food isn't the same as homemade...
We had a good time waiting for our plane and flying!

Safe flight and now we are settling down for a delicious turkey dinner that Nana Kay made us :)

My littlest friend baby Grey!

After a lengthy nap (not much sleep last night after our car trip!) Jack and I headed off to see Lyndsey and Greyson. Jack was VERY excited! (Momma too!)

Words cannot describe how much I love seeing these two grow up from little newborns into beautiful chunky boys!

Jack was so interested in Greyson - he loves little boys like him! Grey is so sweet!

All my bags are packed...

I'm ready to go!

Scott, Jack and I are traveling a whole bunch in the next week (yikes!) and today out travels start. Greenwood, Halifax, Gander and St. Johns. Holy moly this baby is well traveled :)

The kitties are already at their babysitter they went over this afternoon. They get their own private livingroom in a caring family home near to us. Much better than traveling in the car for hours!
I will do my best to continue to blog daily but if I miss a day go easy on me :).

Bookworm Jack

What can I say... this guy LOVES books. Thank you everyone who gave us books for him. He has his own library of books now and so enjoys pulling them off the shelf and flipping the pages. We have baby books scattered around our house, car, bath and both diaper bags because he loves them so.

Little monster* emptying his shelves.

Come on Momma, get over here and put them all back so I can make a mess again.

Apollo comes to inspect the mess...

... guess he didn't want to listen to a story!

*term monster used in the context of "furry-lovable monster Grover" like in Sesame Street haha not as in "holy-terror"!

Jack's Newborn Shadow Box

Right after Jack was born I came across this Pin which inspired me to create. I didn't want to do this exact photo box but I loved all the elements she combined. Of course for Jack less pink more green!

Now that Jack has consistent naps and a routine like clockwork (actually!) I have time to get some much planned projects completed.

The creative process... You can't see the final product through this pile but I can :)!
This week I hope to get his pictures up on the wall, my pregnancy journal finished and update his baby book. But at the top of my list was putting together this photo box. You keep all those newborn things in a box like his first hat, his hospital bracelets and favourite infant outfit. I thought it would be really special to be able to see those things more often than when I stumble upon them in his closet.

Here are all the things we included. I have enough new born stuff to make a wall of photo boxes but having just a few items makes it special rather than pack-rat ish.

Sweetest little baby boy. Ate and slept like a trooper. We are still thankful!

We both adore this photo of our baby boy. Fresh, puffy, bundled up and wearing a hat his momma knit obsessively the month before he was born. I kept all the things I knit for him so naturally we put in the corresponding hat.

One week old :) rockin' the space jammies!
Our absolute favourite sleeper of his hands down. We are Sci-fi junkies and so this was just so perfect. We received it as a gift from my boss Jenny and her family. Sadly Jack only fit into it for a week yet it is still our fav of all time.

I also included all three of our bracelets from the hospital. It was an important day for all three of us! Besides it being Jacks big day, it was also our first day as parents. It was so surreal to have them put the mother and father bracelets on us!

Up on the wall! Looks fabulous in that spot.
(Please don't mind the ridiculous stack of stuff on his dresser we are in the process of packing for our Newfoundland trip this week!)

It has been a challenging journey for us and we have grown so much as individuals and closer as a family. Thinking back to that day seems so long ago and like we were different people. How did we live before Jack? Can't imagine how life would be without him. And we don't wanna :).

Rockin' a New Sling: At the market & great tutorials to make your own!

As Jack grows we have been trying all different kinds of slings for him. I find that a sling is very much depending on your baby's mood, size and your own comfort. It is a little concerning the first few times to put a baby into a sling because you are scared of them falling out etc etc. Click here to see my other baby sling/wrap blogs the Mei Tai and the Moby. Used properly (read instructions and practice at home first) these slings can be an effective tool for a busy Momma (or Daddy) on the go!

Finally in the mail we received two much awaited items: Ashley and Bryons wedding invite (amazing colours - love it) and our Seven sling. The sling I "bought" because I got a coupon through a baby newsfeed I follow on Twitter for a free sling just pay shipping and handling. Free sling? Yes please!
Getting comfortable with the sling...
Yup - we're comfortable!
Cutie baby tooshie in a fabulous patterned sling.

After playing around with it all morning in our jammies it was time to get dressed and hit the market. Thankfully we brought the sling because navigating in stroller would have been impossible. It was so busy! We enjoyed some spring rolls, donair wrap and then walked to Kings Place to Second Cup for a iced latte drink. So delicious!

Thats right, real men wear baby slings! Don't believe me? Click Here!

This is definitely the most secure feeling sling either of us have ever worn. It is perfect for carrying Jack on the hip and having him be able to see everything going on. He flirted up a storm in the crowds at the market and really enjoyed being in the sling. Definitely going to keep this in the car to rotate into my repertoire of "going out devices" for Jack. You can read about my others here and here(and here!).

Now down to business.

Do I recommend this style sling? Whole heartedly.

Do I recommend buying one? Not even a little bit.

Do I recommend that you sew one yourself if you have the means? Oh yes.

This sling is the most simple piece of baby equipment I've seen. It looks like an oddly shaped open sided pillow case. All it is is a long strip of fabric sewn together at the ends in a slightly rounded seam. It is SIMPLE. And if you have a sewing machine don't you dare waste $30-60 on a sling for yourself (or as a gift). Since I had the coupon I thought I would use it (saved me $50!) otherwise I would have been sewing myself one for certain.

("Look Ma - No hands!" LOVE her blog - so creative and funny!)

I have tracked down a GREAT tutorial on how to sew it so please check it out! It is on a lovely blog called Delia Creates. She's a mom of three so she really knows what she is up to. See her tutorial (and she shares her inspiration tutorial too!) here.

Jack and Aurora's play date!

Jack had a busy afternoon visiting his ladies and kid friends at Sunny Days, and meeting up with his cousin Aurora for a play date!
Admiring Aurora - babies love kids!!
Did I mention Aurora is the sweetest little girl?
Aurora kept Jack entertained and played games with him. She showed him lots of toys and was a watchful friend to him. When he got upset she quickly gave him his soother that I had left attached accidentally to a toy band.

Aurora played a tickle game and it was the sweetest thing :)

Jack loved all the toys she got out for him - especially his new favourite animal the chicken!
